Get 365 Days Of Free Ambient Music

Daily AmbienceMarch 09: It’s free electronic music month at Synthtopia.

All month, we’re going to help you kick the RIAA habit by highlighting great electronic music that’s available for free on the Internet. Previously, we’ve looked at free trance music, free electroacoustic music, Berlin-school bootlegs and some 8-bit madness.

Tired of all the free music, yet? I didn’t think so.

If you are into ambient music, check out John Maxwell Hobbs’ insanely ambitious Daily Ambience project. Hobbs created a new piece of ambient music every day for a year – 365 days straight. Then he posted it to the Internet for free download. He even made a podcast out of it, so you can subscribe to it with iTunes and have it download all the music for you.

Here’s Hobbs’ final say on the project:

“This has been quite a project – at this point I can’t believe it’s finished. I’m not sure what comes next. I’ll take a bit of time off, then plan the next project. I’ve really learned a great deal from creating in this fashion, and it’s not something I want to give up. I will probably continue to create on a regular basic like this because it’s a good way to stay on form.”

“I’ll let you in on a little secret. Because I’ve been doing a lot of traveling in the last two months, I’ve had to work ahead in order to be able to publish daily. The 365th track was recorded on the 28th of January, so I met my goal of completing the project within a one year period, despite the 16 day hiatus.”

You can learn more about it at the Cinema Volta Daily Ambience site.
