Benjamin

You've been told wrong!

There are three main types of vocal synthesis that you might be interested in:
vocoders - things (software or hardware) that put your voice patterns onto a synth sound. This is the typical disco synth voice sound.

harmonizers - things that create additional fake voices from vocal tracks. These are typically used for creating artificial harmonies

vocal synthesizers - software that takes text & written notes (or MIDI) and creates a vocal track from scratch. These let you create fake vocals.
