A live performance with the Tonium Pacemaker – the pocket-sized DJ system, performed on Beatport’s stage at Hotel National, Miami, March 29th 2008.

I’m still not sold on the idea of a palm-sized DJ system. How can you work this with any level of control.

Anybody want to set me straight?

I’ve seen a few videos for it & it almost seems like you’re limited to operating one perimeter at a time so pulling off cool stuff would have to have expert timing. This thing could be cool on a plane ride or maybe playing informally at a bar or something but I doubt we’ll see Carl Cox rock one. As it is now, I look like I’m checking email doing Ableton sets but with this it’d look like I’m playing PSP.

The further dj’s get away from turntables, the more it looks like they’re wanking……

      something to think about

When Mozart was composing at the end of the eighteenth century, the city of Vienna was so quiet that fire alarms could be given verbally, by a shouting watchman mounted on top of St. Stefan’s Cathedral. In twentieth-century society, the noise level is such that it keeps knocking our bodies out of tune and out of their natural rhythms. This ever-increasing assault of sound upon our ears, minds, and bodies adds to the stress load of civilized beings trying to live in a highly complex environment. — Stephen Halpern
