Leon Berry’s Beast In The Basement

Leon Berry, popular Chicago organist, installed a Wurlitzer theatre organ in his basement in the 1950’s calling it the Beast in the Basement. The organ, complete with all the bells and whistles, was once used to accompany silent movies at the Lake Theater in Crystal Lake Illinois.

Anybody have their own electronic music Beast in the Basement?

  1. You asked, does anyone have their own electronic music Beast in the Basement? I do. It is a virtual simulation of a theater pipe organ. Powered by an intel i7 computer and accessing 1/2 gigabyte of samples of actual WurliTzer and other theater organ pipework, percussions and sound effects. Go to Youtube, and search under 'Les Knoll'. You will see the instrument in action. By the way, my instrument is able to simulate Leon Berry's 'Beast pretty well. I had the opportunity to play Leon's 'Beast' a long time ago.
