Timothy Renalto’s The Bad Hand is a sort of plasma theremin.
It doesn’t really improve on the idea of the theremin, but it does look pretty awesome.

Wow- he has improved the actual plasma ball, all those plasma balls that
got mothballed should be brought out and retrofitted like this one, it
is actually useful. This would be a great prop for a haunted house!
