These videos demo Shado, “a futuristic, top-secret Monome compositing system in operation.”

Shado is an open-source compositing and sprite library for the Monome. It is written in Java, but designed to work seamlessly with a lightweight scripting language like Groovy or Python.

These videos highlight the fact that Monome’s strength isn’t it’s array of switches of lights, but the fact that it’s completely open to hacking.

      something to think about

Music has had its day. A lot of music now doesn’t really have an independent existence separate from the places it’s played in. For instance, a lot of rave music and ambient and trance and so on has very much to do with clubs and lots of people being together and so on. It’s very context-linked. And quite often on records it sounds rather dull. — Brian Eno
