Steve Roach, who’s probably best known for his dark ambient and space music releases, also has done his share of work with a Berlin School (ie 70’s Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze) influence.

Make A Monome Clone
Julien Bayle’s site features an interesting work in progress looking at building a Monome clone. Even more interesting, his project features multi-color LEDs.
It’s a heavy duty project, requiring coding, wiring and design skills. But if you can’t wait for a Monome or just don’t have the bucks, it could be the way to go.
