I simply don’t get it, why in the world would you want to destroy a midi controller to turn it into a… ugly midi controller with less funcionallity?
@coke: Exactly! I didn’t get it either. Or, hey why not just buy a cheap controller that already has pads! I call this a capital DUH here!

The point isn’t the results – you’re going to want to do something completely different.
The point is that you can take a cheap controller and remake it into anything you want. Say you want a MIDI body suit – you could hack one out of a cheap controller like this.
