FBI Arrests Music Blogger

Unbefriggingbelievable.

Violent crime is on the rise in the US.

We can’t find Osama Bin Laden in seven years.

Millions of illegal aliens are hiding in the country, gainfully employed.

And we’re arresting music bloggers

A Los Angeles blogger has been arrested for allegedly sharing music online. Twenty-seven-year-old Kevin Cogill was arrested by FBI agents at his home Wednesday and charged with violating federal copyright laws. He is accused of releasing several Guns N’ Roses songs from their album Chinese Democracy before the album’s commercial release.

Cogill was arrested in his pajamas, and government agents recommended that bail be set at $50,000.

What does this tell the world about US law enforcement priorities?

We’re keeping the world safe for big business.

  1. i don’t think you frame this well. apples and oranges – the people who go after bin laden are not the same people who go after software/music pirates. you are oversimplifying in an overangry effort to vent at not finding bin laden.

software and music piracy is a huge issue and, if you were guns’n’roses, you too would have a problem with people stealing your stuff, disrupting your marketing plans, and ultimately taking a lot of money out of your pocket after you’ve put a ton of work into a project. this guy deserves jail and his crime is a serious one.

ultimately, if you don’t agree with the laws, you should contact your legislators. the people who apprehended him were just following the laws. you obtain and distribute copyrighted material that doesn’t belong to you: you committed a crime and will be caught.

attacking “big business” is a red herring. this is plain and simple theft and redistribution of intellectual property.

  2. …Good sir,
if you still believe we have not found Bin Laden ( Son of one of Mister shrubs biggest business partners ) because hes hiding deep in a cave some place in Pakistan, I have some land in Wisconsin to sell you…

…as for intellectual property and online piracy, that’s truly a gray area in some cases, but in this case, I can agree that the gentleman overstepped his boundaries.

But it still shows that big business is MUCH more important than the security of the average American.

P.S. The only reason we have not had another attack here in the USA is because we have our eyes open, they cant get away with it this time… IMHO of course, and for sake of a different view.. : )

If i am part of guns’n’roses I would not care about people stealing my songs. Do you think big comercial artists with million-dollar-contracts care? no 🙂

…anyways, there will be always piracy, it’s an economic law. The only solution to this is that producers would be selling at the demand price. But, that’s not going to happen, so, fuck anti-piracy laws. 🙂

  4. Political subjects tend to bring out the idiot comment posters – keep this blog about synth and electronic music news. This is neither.

  5. I think that’s a good idea to go after these pirate because that’s the small business who suffers the most from this practicing. I can’t believe how many pirated softwares, disc, movies, etc… there is on the net. Some people have simply no respect to others people works! Giving back the control to the creators & workers who makes things happens is just the right thing to do.

  6. Altoidboy, please take your head out your your ass. Do not pass “go”. Do not collect $200.00. You have completely missed the point.

The money spent on arresting the blogger could have gone for a much more useful purpose. Your “crocodile tears” are falling on dry ground because we know that big business is behind the shit in Iraq and a lot of other things as well.

Your comments make absolutely no sense.
