This is a little off-topic, but check out the way that Guitar Rig Hero Contest Winner Jayme Gutierrez lays down the layers. 

Instruments used in video: Yamaha Clavinova CPL 230, Fender Stratocaster, Yamaha Bass, acoustic drums (unknown brand), Flamenco box, shaker, Roland XP10, Rhode condenser microphones, Mackie Onyx 400f, Cubase SX 2 and Guitar Rig 3 with Rig Kontrol 1 pedal.

    How was all this looped in real time? This is an AWESOME way to jam (if you are able to play all the inst’s) What’s that pedal? All done in Cubase? i don’t recall cubase being intuitive enough to pull this off (hands free)…I’ve seen it with Ableton live, but Live is just quirky & awkward to use for me :>(
