The Waldorf Blofeld is a tiny synth module that delivers the same sounds known to many from the Waldorf Pulse, Q, Q+, Micro Q, Microwave, Microwave II/XT, or Wave.

The Blofeld is based on the PPG Wave synthesizers of the early 80s. When you listen to the Blofeld for the first time, you may recognize those timbres from the PPG era.

  1. I got one back in October and I like it a lot.
    It has a very “hard” sound. Very solid sounding. Very digital but in a nice way. It can also destroy your speakers if your not paying attention!
    I think the lack of knobs put some people off as far as programing goes. It’s long and a little boring to try and program from the front but I found a nice software editor and now I find I am using it much more.

    It’s also build like a tank! Metal case and metal knobs. It has a very expensive feel too it. Friends always think its the most expensive thing in my studio because of how it feels and looks.

    If I had to complain about it I wish the USB connection transmitted audio. It’s just for MIDI data 🙁

    AND some of the presets are a little on the boring/plain side of things.

    But when I am bored, I hook it up to my laptop and can tweak it for hours and never end up with the same sound.

  5. it's a great synth! I love it. only hitch for me is i use a mac computer, and there's no official editor for mac. i did find a few okay alternatives, but ehhh…

    anyway, sounds are fantastic as is the build quality and great display.
