I am very Happy with the built in microphones but have not tested the DR-100 with externals yet. It seemed to me, however, that recording with the internal mics was a little quiet. For best results I now routinely select Hi Gain with the gain switch, anyhing lower gives rather problematic results on mp3 direct recording. Patrick B.
