This Sexy Music Computer Will Make You Drool

Sexy Music Computer

Designers Young-Shin Lee & Hae-Jin Jung came up with this design for a sexy music computer, the One Person Band:

Music aficionados rejoice. The idea of having only 1 device that combines multiple instruments, track recording, equalizer, sound editing, internet connectivity, and a touchscreen interface all into one compact package is drool worthy. The Vivace makes it all possible. Information is scarce on how the interface works but I have no doubt up-and-coming artists like FrankMusik and Bjork could do a lot with such a device.

Here’s another shot:

While the concept looks sort of sexy, I have yet to see a multi-touch music surface to anything that can’t be done cheaper and in a more musically expressive way with hardware.

Let me know what you think of this design. Do you think sexy multitouch functionality will eventually be better than hardware control surfaces?

  1. if you can put your ableton on it, why not! -and when you may have full ability to control scences and effects it would be practical too. but it will never replace a "real" hardware knob that you can feel between your fingers!

  2. I don’t see the point of having touchscreens and I don’t think it’s a good idea For one, it’s far too expensive both in the short-term and in the long term!
My second reason is that I am quite skeptical about it’s MIDI processing capability. What if you want accentuate some of the notes; play a note really loud? Sure one’s alright, but what if you do that, say, over a period of twenty-four bars? You’re gonna be breaking the screen and to fix touchscreens costs a LOT of money. Besides, I got a hardware that I can cue in EQ effects without even having to lift my hands from the keys.

“Will multitouch functionality be better than hardware control surfaces? In my opinion, no!
