William Orbit – Optical Illusions

This is William Orbit‘s Optical Illusions, from the forthcoming album My Oracle Lives Uptown.

Orbit notes:

I have never done anything like this before.

All done on laptops. Richard Shea and I spent long hours editing and assembling. Final Cut Pro was a hard mountain to climb and in the end we mostly used Sony Vegas.

This first video is made to the Dr Meaker remix of ‘Optical Illusions’. He mixed it at Olympic Studios in South London. Sam Matthews was the mix engineer. I really like the sound they got there.

  1. I liked what he did with Madonna better than just about anything she's ever done.

This sounds ok, but sort of accessible.

  2. "Final Cut Pro was a hard mountain to climb and in the end we mostly used Sony Vegas" is very intriguing. I'd like to hear him elaborate on that, because I've had a similar problem: I heart Macs, but FCP's interface wasn't as intuitive as Vegas' grid-editing.

Whoa, this track sounds like a throwback to 1997 jungle! I wasn't expecting that. Apparently, it's a drum 'n' bass remix of the original:
