The Most Amazing Synth Porn Video Ever

Matthew Davidson (Stretta) captured this glorious synth porn video at Analogue Heaven Northeast 2009:

Once a year, analog synth enthusiasts gather to socialize and play rare and unusual musical instruments. I captured the May 2009 gathering with a Canon 5DmkII and a 50mm f/1.4 lens. I simply sat the Camera on a tripod, frame the shot as I would a photo, focused and captured.

The music was produced using a Euro-format analog modular, controlled by Volta. Aside from the drums (MOTU BPM), everything was analog.

The quality of the images is just gorgeous. The video not only captures luscious images of an amazing collection of droolworthy gear, but it also highlights Davidson’s visual and compositional talents.

  1. Amazing!

The images look different than normal video, more like moving photographs than video.

Davidson has a couple of free albums at his site that I recommend checking out, too.

  2. I would have loved to have watched this video, but it was so choppy and sporadic (as most videos I try to watch on this web site are), that is was unwatchable. 🙁 Seems to be the case more and more with streaming videos. So much for extra bandwidth huh?

I think there should only be a max of three blog articles with videos on the main page because they take forever to load and even freeze my firefox browser sporadically too. Am on a T1 so it is not my connection. No probs with other sites loading.

Cool photography from what I saw though 🙂

  3. Yup; they "look different" because they're using a much narrower depth-of-field than is typical of video. …Well, that, and they're high-quality. …Well, that, and the cinematographer really had an excellent eye.

…Sadly, the video craps out on me shortly after 1:45 (where I believe someone is tweaking a Synthi?). :

Very, very nicely done, though. More like this, please!

  4. UPDATE: …Clicking on the "HD" version and watching it on Vimeo solved my problem.

(And, yes, that was a Synthi.)

And, it turns out he shot this with a (digital) camera. The "different" look was due to the lens he was using… a very fast 50mm.
