This live jam features the Radikal Spectralis II taking it’s clock signal from a Red Voyager Beat extractor that is “listening” to the mix coming from a laptop/Ableton Live set-up.

Details below.

This is the Spectralis II (brand new model) taking it’s clock signal from Red Voyager Beat extractor that is literally listening to the mix coming from the laptop/Ableton set-up. Once you understand what exactly is going on in this video the top of your skull will pop off and your mind will do a 360 in mid-air, returning to its original position, but altered in a permanent state of “you’re kidding”. This is the bare-boned digital system (without the Kaoss pad, Kaossilator, or Percussa audio cubes, and, obviously, without the video gear), using only the Logitech joystick to cherry-pick through the on-screen clips & activate the effects for each channel, the Novation X Station to fade the 8 channels on screen up and down and its joystick to control Ableton’s effects’ parameters, and, of course, the amazing Spectralis II from Radikal technologies. The silkscreening is still a little tacky it’s so new (just kidding-it is beautiful). This is just me finally getting the hang of this thing (sort of) at 1:30 in the morning. The music is a mixture of the Spectralis’ other-worldly sounds, our own MIDI mixes (original compositions), other artists’ music, and a lot of beats, grooves, and loops at all times. I even demonstrate the ability to “jam” along on the X Station’s built-in 300-voice digital synthesizer. Enjoy!

i kinda hate this guy, I dont know if its the cigarette over the equipment, or the toolish mustache, but something makes me hate him

The things you mentioned + using a joystick to select Ableton clips + the dumbass desktop wallpaper (on a CRT monitor?!) + the disgusting hovel + shitty generic music. This is a perfect video for preventing further sales of the Spectralis!

    Mario?

Yeah – the smoking next to $5,000 worth of gear is an immediate d-bag indicator.

Ouch! You guys are brutal – If it helps, nobody takes to me right away, but I am quite cool, I can assure you. Manfred Mann and Michael Jackson are "generic"?
You should check my other videos so you get a better idea as to what is actually going on. This is not the normal setting for this thing – There were issues getting it to follow the MIDI clock from the X Station, so I had it listening to a Beat Extractor for a few hours and it seemed to follow it, but I still need a decent MIDI clock device that will take the clock signal from the laptop (Ableton) and send out a good, solid MIDI signal, so if you want to direct any criticism in that direction, please do so. The problem is in the X Station. It does something to the MIDI clock signal from Ableton that the Spectralis won't recognize totally.

All the things the first two commentators dislike, I like :-)

Oh, and the third comment too. Smoking next to expensive gear? It's his own home and his own gear, right?

Where I come from the D-Bag title is generally reserved for those who make major judgement call about people they don't know from Adam, and as far as smoking around the Spectralis goes: The guy who invented the thing smokes like a train in his studio as well, and if I want tot smoke around all $35,000.00 worth of my gear or use it as a boat anchor, I will do what I want with it. I'll leave the world of being told how to live one's life according to others… to others.

Maybe there's a little jealousy about the hot gear……..

'…in a smoke free studio', is just something people say when selling their gear secondhand. Sure the volume pot only turns 3/4 way, the display is slightly cracked and the thing is covered in 17 years worth of blood, sweat and semen, but hey ~ a smoke free studio! Pfft! i seriously question the integritty of any musician who doesn't smoke at least a little something now and then. Especially around the gear. Great demo Kipp. 'Liking the joystick technique as well.
