Can A Complete Track Be Made With A Casio CZ101 That Doesn’t Sound Cheesy?

Have you ever wondered if a cheap Casio synth could be used to make a complete track – that doesn’t sound cheesy?

That’s the challenge robotpickle took on in creating this track. Every sound comes from a Casio CZ-101 synthesizer.

At the time the Casio CZ-101 synth was released in 1984, it was one of the cheapest polyphonic synths ever made and featured 49 miniature keys.

  1. Nice work!

Maybe it's a reminder to erase your presets and create your own sounds. I'm amazed that he got that much variety from a Casio!

  2. I have a CZ-101, and it does make some pretty awesomely unique sounds. It's a pain to program, though (lots of pushing tiny buttons and squinting at the little LCD), and not much in the way of performance controls.

Sadly, something happened to my back-up battery, or whatever keeps the patches stored, so if I make a cool sound, it get's zapped when I turn it off, which is a major bummer.

Still a fun little guy, though.
