Hemisphere Games has released Osmos – a new game for Windows XP or Vista that features “elegant, physics-based gameplay, dreamlike visuals, and a minimalist, electronic soundtrack.”

Check out the preview above. Get your copy from Steam or Direct2Drive.

And then tell me why the **** this isn’t available for the Mac!

About Osmos

Your objective is to grow by absorbing other motes. Propel yourself by ejecting matter behind you. But be wise: ejecting matter also shrinks you. Relax – good things come to those who wait.

Key features:

  • Independent Games Festival finalist in three categories: Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Excellence in Design and Technical Excellence
  • Progress from serenely ambient levels into varied and more challenging worlds. (47 levels, plus bonus content)
  • Confront attractors, repulsors and intelligent motes with similar abilities and goals as you
  • Selected as one of the 2009 PAX 10
  • Procedural content: play random versions of any level
  • Sublime electronic soundtrack by Loscil, Gas/High Skies, Julien Neto, Biosphere, and more
  • Dynamic time-warping: slow down the flow of time to outmaneuver agile opponents; speed it up to raise the challenge

Don't feel too bad…many, if not most, PC games are not available for Mac.

But if you can stomach it, you can play it by running Windows on your Mac.

Well, ok, it has great music…(some modern arcade games have great music too..like this http://www.nurium.com/)…but what else is there except music? What is the purpose of the game?

Yeah, I noticed that release yesterday was was VERY frustrated that it wasn't available on Mac.

Tried running the demo via VM ware, but I don't have dual-boot set up for it, and it was ludicrously slow (about 1 frame every three seconds). ; )

I'll *definitely* be one of the first in line to grab this when it's available for the mac, though.

Hi gang — Dave Burke from Hemisphere Games here (the developers of Osmos).

We don't have a Mac version of Osmos available yet because we're only two dudes and the game has only *just* come out on the first platform (PC). But rest assured — a Mac version is very much on our radar!

The other thing is that we made sure during our testing that Osmos runs on Crossover, VMware Fusion and Parallels (as well as a windows partition obviously ;-) So there's nothing stopping you from enjoying the game in its current state if you're itching to play ;-)

    Happy Osmoting!

Wow, awesome music (High Skies/Gas), great game too (just bought it :D
ISn't this the same guy who did the Gas-Microscopic music/ video?

I just wish there was a newer version of FLOW (which was cool, and free).
