Sneak Preview: This is a demo of the Korg Wavedrum Percussion Synthesizer.

I haven’t seen an official announcement or specs on this from Korg, yet.

The original Korg Wavedrum is a rarity, but is sought after by many. Sound on Sound said this of the original:

The Wavedrum is a unique instrument which will probably sell mainly to percussionists, with some going to other musicians rich enough to indulge in non-essential gear. While it’s not without its faults, these appear to be outweighed by its undoubted appeal and playability, and by the prospect of exciting future spin-offs.

This looks super cool. I've never played with a Wavedrum, but this looks responsive and like it could be incorporated into just about any type of music.

    Anybody try this out yet?

He's pretty much just describing what he's doing. It's got a center sensor, an edge sensor, and a rim sensor, and they can distinguish between softer sounds and sounds with a sharper attack. Even when the raw sound from the drumhead isn't used as part of the sound source, it can still be played really naturally with purely synthetic sounds. The hundred presets are more like a hundred different instruments than a hundred different sounds.

Nothing specific about the signal routing, and nothing about price or release dates.

I own two of the first wave drum and I love them, I can't wait to get another new one, any pricings yet?

Apparently it's going to be between 450 & 650 euros. Check out the wavedrum's yahoo group…

      something to think about

I don’t compose on paper. I compose in my mind and in my memory, and also we compose by accident in the studio. So anything is possible. — Ralf Hütter
