Touch DJ Now Available So You Can DJ With Your iPhone!

Amidio announced that Touch DJ (App Store link), described as the first full-featured DJ MP3 application on the iPhone platform, has been approved and is now available.

Touch DJ offers realtime independent manipulation of 2 MP3 files, including scratching, looping, positioning, equalization, effects and and pitching.

Touch DJ gets around the limitation of one set of stereo outputs by focusing on “visual mixing” – the graphic display of the track waveforms next to each other. The low-bass (kick) parts are detected and rendered in different color compared to the rest sonic frequencies, making beatmatching as easy as adjusting the tracks position and pitch so that the kick parts become visually matched.

As an alternative for users who prefer to prelisten to tracks, Touch DJ also offers a second “Split” mode of mixing which requires the usage of a special l/r splitting adapter.

Other features include LP filter FX for each track, vinyl Spin and Break effects, onboard sampler with 3 sample slots (accepts .WAV files) and the ability to record samples via the microphone.

Touch DJ uses its own music library, independent of the iTunes music library. The app is shipped with 25 dance tracks provided by DanceMusicHub.com, and you can load up more using a utility available at the Amidio site.

Touch DJ retails for $19.99.

If you’ve used Touch DJ, leave a comment with your thoughts!

Note: DJ apps have been slow to be approved by Apple. There’s a petition you can sign to ask Apple to speed up the process.

This is a kludge caused by Apple no opening up the iTunes library to other apps.

  2. I have been using Touch DJ for 24 hours, What can i say!!! What out Judge Jools!!!
Reall this is the best DJ application ever, nothin compares, it’s also probably one of the most addictive apps too!

There are however a few tweaks I wish for, accessing my iTunes music library, not having to now wait for the sync application and more info about the i/r adapter, IE, where to get it.

Problems – if you keep changing he tracks, whilst one is playing, the playing tracks graph locks. I’m using a 32gb 3gs, so I was a little suprised. This can be fixed though, by either using good old fashioned djing, or don’t keep loading tracks, IE 5 times in 30seconds.

    All in all though 10/10

  3. the program is cool but it doesn't have the sync button and the bpm value on the display…so it's really hard to put 2 track in a perfect sync..for the rest the loop modality is not clear..

At the end this program is cooler but need to be "perfectionated" (sorry for this word I don't know how to explain in english 🙂 )

  6. I downloaded this app about 30 minutes ago and for the price i'm not really that impressed. As mauro mentioned there is no bpm counter on display and no auto sync function which would allow you more time to manipulate the mix etc. It is the 1st and only fully functional DJ app but you could never use in a live performance as it's far to difficult to get the 'perfect mix'.

Also i'm having trouble finding this Touch DJ Sync program which apparently allows you to sync your own mp3 music. Seems ironic you can't import music from your library straight into the application.

Overall it is a handy app when you fancy a mix sitting on the train to work, but I definately wouldn't be trading in my CDJ's just yet!

  9. I purchased the TouchDJ app a few days ago for €15.99. Overall I'm dissappointed with it but optimistic that the developers will improve it's functionality. The lack of a functioning BPM Counter is disgraceful and leads me to ask WTF were they thinking when setting out to develop this? Who TF are they? Certainly not DJs! And also as previously mentioned a simple "sync" button would also greatly improve the usability of TouchDJ.
Don't get me wrong, I've been waiting for an app like this to come out for a long time and it is a welcome development but there are some serious issues that need to be addressed before this app will earn any credit from any type of DJ. This is not for professionals, this isn't even suitable to use at a house party. It's a toy, and until the formentioned issues are addressed, that's all it ever will be.
I expect to see more big players coming into the market now that the bar has been set, pity the bar isn't already higher though!

  12. I have this app and its great, dont have any issues. It's easy to mix just use the splitter option for now and a update is coming for the above.
