Miniak MIDI Suite Unlocks The Potential Of The Akai Miniak

Minizune

Bïzune has introduced Miniak MIDI Suite, a pair of application for the new AKAI Miniak synthesizer.

They call it “the first ever Softmod for a musical instrument”, because Bïzune’s Miniak Suite adds control features and modulation sources not available on the hardware itself:

  • The Minizune parameter editor – Operating as a standalone PC application or VSTi Plugin, it provides control of the Miniak’s parameters with an attractive and inspiring interface. The MIDI Learn feature enables convenient integration and assignment of external MIDI controllers and the parameters can be automated from a VST Host.
  • The Groove-Mod rhythm sequencer transforms the Miniak into a full featured virtual analog drum machine. Rhythms can be programmed on the step sequencers and then recorded into the Miniak’s sequencer for standalone playback. Mute buttons and virtual sliders are provided for effortless mixing of each drum sequence. In addition to the percussion voices, four reversible modulation sequencers can be programmed for unusual morphing beats.

The Minizune Editor and Miniak Groove-Mod are available $33 USD individually or $50 USD for both programs.

  1. "provides control of the Miniak’s parameters with an attractive and inspiring interface" Seriously? Did Synthtopia post the wrong screenshot? There's nothing attractive or inspiring about that interface. Nothing. Either hire a good UI designer, or a truthful PR person.

  4. The same company, bizune, makes an editor suite for the Micron as well. Check their website. My question is, how easy/difficult is it to work on patches on your pc, then transfer that patch to your miniak? Can you do you transfer several patches at a time? Can you edit existing patches on your miniak by moving them to your pc? Can you see all of the patches that come stock in the editing software so you can work from there? Also, this question is more of a complaint? Where's the @#$%^ usb to make this soooo much easier. Dropped the ball on that one. It's 2010 y'all. Get with it. 🙂

  6. For the price range it is selling in, a software editor from the manufacturer should have been a no brainer. I was at a GC locally here a day after the Mini was available. Enjoyed playing it, was ready to buy until the factory rep came up and I asked him if it came with a software editor/librarian. His answer of No basically made me keep my wallet in my pocket. Would have liked to have that, but integration is key for me. I am not into punching through hundreds of menus to alter/tweak sounds. Maybe they (Akai) will come up with something inthe future for us.

  7. Yeah that new hypersynth editor looks bad ass. This toy looks just silly. I would be afarid of my kid looking at it and laughing. The interface is straight outa the eightys…gaaaaayyy

  8. The miniak is a drummachine and stepsequencer from standart – step sequenceer and
drumkits and drummachine patterns are already in the miniak when you buy one and you
can use the display of the miniak to see the step sequencer and you can edit it and make
    *fat* loops.

This software is just a graphical frontend to do the same things on the computer you can
do on the miniak without the software. You unlock *NOTHING* with this software – this is
    pure disinfo.
