Free MaxForLive Monome Suite Updated

maxforlive

monome guru Matthew Davidson has announced that his free maxforlive monome suite has been updated.

Here’s what’s new:

  • multiple monome support – the suite can now address multiple connected monomes independently.
  • live UI object support – most displayed parameters can be saved in a preset and automated. coll data still needs to be loaded in a separate file. Press Cafe can write out data files. Bug fixed with Obo that prevented read/write commands from doing anything.
  • sment – monome controlled beat splicer now added to suite.

Download at Davidson’s Stretta site.

Requires Max For Live & Ableton Live 8.

  1. When reading about suites like these I always wonder… Sure, don't get me wrong; I can see how this will benefit Mononome owners who want to use this device with Live. But solely as a Live controller?

Now granted; this cynicism isn't solely aimed at the Mononome but also the Novation launchpad: how /do/ you keep track on where you are and what is selected? I've given this a hard thought when deciding between the Launchpad and the APC40 and ended up with the APC since it gives me a choice. Either I wing stuff (shifting the grid onto places where no APC has gone before) or use things "normalized' (the knobs, faders, etc.).

Well, that and the fact that the Mononome fully depends on Max. When solely looking at Live I'm more comfortable with saving money on hardware (APC vs Mononome) and somewhat using that to spend on extra's like Max for Live.

But… Don't get me wrong; this is solely looking from a Live users perspective.
