Alesis Micron SE – Limited Edition In Blue

micron-blue-special-edition

NAMM: Alesis announced immediate availability of the micron se. Alesis is offering the micron se in limited production.

This will probably not make anybody’s “best of NAMM list”, because the Micron SE’s claim to fame is the blue color scheme.

Features:

  • Special limited-edition blue design
  • Analog modeling synth engine
  • Eight voices, each with three oscillators
  • Up to eight multi-timbral parts with stereo effects
  • Two multimode filters, three envelope generators, two LFOs, sample and hold, tracking generator
  • Dynamic real-time and step sequencers, arpeggiator, and drum machine/rhythm sequencer
  • Stereo bus effects including reverbs and delays
  • 24-bit 1/4″ balanced stereo analog outputs and inputs
  • 37-key synth-action keyboard with velocity sensitivity
  • More than 600 preset sounds

  1. I’m STILL waiting for Alesis to release the full NRPN list for the parameters like everybody else does.

It has been 5 years and they still haven’t released the information that even synths from 1984 had in the back of the manual. Even third party software developers have had to reverse engineer these just to make a simple editing program for this synth.

What freeking nerve they have. They must be making too much cash selling everyone replacements for their defective white programming knobs.

  2. ….I assume the Alesis marketing people assume everyone is stupid? i'll wait and buy something useful. May as well put a virtual keyboard on the new Apple tablet (when it arrives) and surf the internet and download samples at the same time…..

  4. I have the normal version of this one (in red) and is a great piece of hardware, maybe is complex to edit, but is a very well constructed tiny synth (not like the microkorg) with many possibilities to create sounds, play it & manipulate it.

  5. I concur. I stopped using my microkorg altogether once I dove into the Micron. When I take mine to jam sessions, people are always impressed with its sound. It's small size and cheeky design are very deceptive. Learning to program is annoying, but one can get used to it. The shortcut keys help a lot.

While the blue design is snazzy, what I really want to know is why would they not at least update the OS a little? Or did they just have some spare parts from 5 years ago laying around that they decided they needed to get rid of?

  7. The Alesis Ion and Micron are beautifully designed machines. Their looks alone made me want to buy them badly. Unfortunately, compared to other VA's, they're not quite capable enough for my money. I wis they'd make an updated version with the same aesthetics. Or better yet, a USB controller that looks like the ION.

  9. You should play with an ion. What it does it does very well. super oscillators, great filters, great mod matrix. More lfos would be nice but I always say that.

  10. Actually as of 10/8/10 Musician's Friend has them on sale for half off. I'm not with them, just passing on what I found. From what I read in reviews (particularly Sound On Sound) this is a nice keyboard to add to the rig. It has pretty much the same hardware set up as an Ensoniq ESQ-1 (the only other synth with 8 voices and three oscillators per voice) with modern hardware. I will get one. At $299 the se is now officially a steal.
