Radikal Keyboard Synth Coming

spectralisRadikal‘s Jörg Schaaf has announced that they will be introducing a new polyphonic 5 cctave synthesizer, with an arpeggiator and sequencer, at Musikmesse 2010:

Musik Messe Frankfurt (End of March) could be the next chance to seeing it..

No – its not a Spectralis 3 and its not a Spectralis keyboard version. But it is a very special keyboard…

I don’t believe, that we will have another Spectralis version before summer.

It’s just a teaser at this point – but some Spectralis owners are frustrated that the company is moving its attention to a new synthesizer:

Jörg,

I’m fed up with your business model!

If you think making new products instead of finishing the ones that you already sell is going to win over new customers, you are very wrong!

It’s like selling a new car that doesn’t quite have all of it’s parts and then telling the customer you have to make a new car before you can finish making the one they already bought…!

You do such excellent work, why always stop just before you are done!!!?

Schaaf has responded to Spectralis owners’ concerns – saying:

We will not stop supporting the Spectralis. We also will not stop supporting the Spectralis 2. But I will probably stop replying on stuff like this.

  1. When skimming the forum this is definitely not something I'd buy.

You have to be careful when it comes to negative comments because it is possible that a minority is simply making more noise than the satisfied majority. Still.. When carefully reading Schaaf's responses I can't say he sounds really convincing.

Instead of actually addressing the grief of some of those posters he simply starts going over history as some kind of defense and actually seems to put some of the blame at the users side.. I quote: "In the past, we received complains about the Muting function of the Spectralis. As a result, we made the mute function user configurable. What looks like a little new addition was a complex changing in the whole sequencer engine. We did that even after suggesting many workarounds to overcome the transient problems on step 1 of the new pattern. But people were not willing to change their way to work with the Spectralis. So we added that. But sometimes people forget, that every additional feature needs time. Maybe the MIDI stuff would just be implemented if we would ignore more user requests for additional features we never have planned.".

Now that is IMVHO plain out rude and totally over the top. Unable to implement midi support in almost 3 frikin' years? (his message about "Midi coming soon" was dated 27th of may 2007).

No, I'd avoid this thing at all costs.

  4. Have you ever used a Spectralis ?
It is a very negative statement on your behalf to say
'I can't say he sounds really convincing' and ' I'd avoid this thing at all costs'.
This man has dedicated his life to making these machines and has been a
'tour de force' among his peers.
He takes time to respond to questions from his users on a personal level and
    at a forum level.
His synths / workstations sound amazing and they have (rightly) deserved
    recognition among his peers.
Lay off Jorg – and have some consideration about the negative things YOU say..
