Is The Arturia Origin “The Most Powerful Synthesizer Of All Time”?

Is the Arturia Origin synthesizer “the most powerful synthesizer of all time”?

That’s what Arturia suggests in this video, a promo for Arturia Origin v1.1.

Is it the $3,200 Arturia Origin the most powerful synth ever?

Check out the feature list below and let us know what you think!

  1. For the Soundquality i can say no !

I have tested a moog voyager and a arturia origin, and there is a lot of difference between them. I thought that there is a little bit more sound in it, but nothing.
They just put the software into a hardwarecase and here it is a new synthesizer !

BUT the quality of the hardwarecase is nice, nice knobs, potis display, everything looks pretty fine

  2. Meh. Overpriced for what it is.
I tried it at the local music shop and I was not as easy to use as I had hoped with all those controls.
And Matt is right. It does not sound all THAT great.

I want a lot more synth for that kind of money.

    1. LMAO!!! More synth than a Origin? Are you out of your mind? There is not much else that is bigger than the Origin in terms of synth power!!! Let me guess, you span through a few of the crappy presets that come with it and decided it was junk….mental. This is one of the most powerful synthesisers I have ever used and I have used nearly every synth in existence over my 40 years of being into synths.

  3. wow . . . but ive always thought that the Korg was the best. Then i hear the Ventage is ! THEN THE Yamaha DX7 ! ! ! which is better if your looking for something that have Lots of tones, is professional and has either 66 or 81 keys? Can anybody help me out there? Please If you know the answer and know it for a FACT ! Please. Send me a text at [email protected]. Im reallllly confused.

  4. Arturia thinks it's the most powerful? Just marketing hype!

Nord Modular G2…more powerful but discounted

Sonic Core Modular 4 + Adern FleXor 3 running on a Scope Xite-1 DSP unit blows the Origin away for the little minnow it is – far far better oscs and filters – this is the most powerful synthesizer! Will cost you £2500 though………..

  6. It is an absolutely amazing synth, and the most powerful hardware synth ever made. __As a synth afficionado for nearly 25 years, I admit that I've only scratched the surface of mine. __It's absolutely amazing, and it sounds wonderful.

  8. Hmm… every manufacturer claims their new synth is the latest 'world's most powerful'. I still think if you look back a few years there are a couple of synths that will be very tough to beat. I'm still discovering the depths of my K2500XS. If you're looking at things like live 'tweakabilty' and front panel knobs then yeah maybe a red (or yellow, or white?) synth is better, but for sheer power the Kurzweil is ridiculously powerful!

  9. Sorry to jump in a bit late. This video makes the Origin sound very Casioish and flat. Just because a synthesizer does a lot of things doesn't mean it's going to sound good. I have a lot of Sonic Core stuff (formerly Creamware) on a couple of their "Project" cards and if it sounded as lifeless as the Origin does in this vid, I would only use the cards for the Mixing and routing, in and out stuff.
I mainly use (real) analogue synths and effects so a weedy sound would stand out a mile.
It could be the guy in the video's fault though, he could be the guy who programs the factory presets for a brilliant synth and miraculously makes it sound boring and cheesy.

I was going to end it there but… case in point, my Roland SH-101, It hasn't got a million features but it is a very useful tool that I use multiple times on EVERY track for things like clicks, zaps, buzzy basses, sub basses, swooshes, leads .. you get the picture, it just works and sounds RIGHT.

  10. How about the new Virus TI2 from Access? It is extremely powerful, and contrary to perception, is not just a trance/dance/house machine. It has more voices and nearly 3000 presets I have been a synth owner clear back to the original days when the Mini, VCS3, and others were just being released.

The Arturia is not the most powerful synthesizer. The Waldorf Wave was – in its time, as was the CS-80, as is the Arturia, Virus, and others. But they are all different in some way, so you can't really compare directly. And to re-iterate someone else's comment – what's next? It will be something even more outrageous and powerful.

Depending on the amount of modules and types of modules, the modular synths of old (and new too) are really some of the most powerful, simply because they be connected and used in ways that the enclosed hardware synths can't be used. Unfortunately they are mostly monohonic.

I have to agree that just because it can do more, it doesn't mean its better or more powerful. Its got to be usable too.

    That's my two cents.

  11. Hi,
Just got an origin, tested it sound wise against my voyager, and I'd say on a single oscillator, filter wide open, you would have to be pretty good to pick apart! Not saying it's better, it's very very close. Then of course you can do all he things the voyage can't. For me it's not one or the other, they serve different purposes, and I think it's great.

  12. I too have bought the Origin desk top and must say its a belter of a bit of kit. I have owned a Prophet 5, Memory moog, tb303's and still own a virus TI along with a lot of other goodies.

This origin is amazing, It's so easy to use too. Im no programmer so I was a bit worried at first thinking I wouldn't be able to pull much out of it. After only 3 weeks in my posetion I have come to realise 3 things.

1, If you don't own something and live with it you can't realise just how good or bad things are.

2, Every synth has its uses, for example. The Korg Radias makes a good visual representation (end of).

3, I'll never sell my Origin or my Virus TI.

  13. Still haven’t heard anything that can hold a candle to the Nord Modular G2 and that was discontinued 7 years ago. You can effectively run 8 huge modular synths (monophonic if you load it that heavily) at once and change the parameters of all of them (8 times over 8 variations) at the push of a single button. Can anyone recommend anything (that isn’t pure software) that can do similarly or, better yet, more?

  14. The most powerful synthesizer of all time is probably Philadelphia’s Wannamaker Organ in Macy’s, since it (and any other huge pipe organ) can, unamplified, sonically pulverize the building in which it resides. A pipe organ can literally emulate any sound (additively) that can be heard. The pipe organ is the most powerful musical instrument ever made, and the most expensive.
