Feeltune Rhizome Groove Machine First Look

This is a demo video from Musikmesse 2010 of the new Feeltune Rhizome groove machine.

This is just a prototype, at this point. The Feeltune Rhizome is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year. Looks like one to look out for though.

  1. But is IS software… from the look of it, it's just a fancy front end on a VST host, a more focused example of what Open Labs have been doing. Well, not "just" a fancy front end. "One hell of" a fancy front end. In fact, I think I like this interface more than the one in Open Labs' gear. Compact, yet intuitive…

Of course, it's hard to tell for sure, because there is next to zero useful information on that web site of theirs.

  2. holy f*ckin shit.

Funny how people predicted everything would be in software in the future…. never saw that much hardware cool stuff this year! I like.

  5. Fixed hardware interfaces make good instruments. IMO it depends on whether you PLAY the interface or just program it with one hand while stroking your chin with the other.

BTW isn’t there something wrong with the posting interface here? Everyone double posts…

  7. I had a little demo at Musikmesse too, but was not too impressed. For sure, it's a nice controller-concept, but usability didn't feel right to me. For example to choose a VST you have to scroll through your list by one of the encoders and the list is shown on one of the smaller displays only of this specific encoder. For me it fells more comfortable to work with Ableton, a dedicated controller and a mouse than having such a big machine on the desk.

Btw one of the guys from Rhizome told me that it'll be around 3000 Euro. I think that's another point that will make it hard for them to reach their target group.

I respect the concept and was impressed when seeing the first video on vimeo a few weeks ago, but it didn't get me when trying it on the Messe.

  9. I agree, I couldn't wait till somthing like this came up. I hate using a computer to do things, it is so unrealistic and doesn't capture the true talent of the musician. Nothing beats real time. I'm hardware all the way, and now it looks beautiful rather than the old bold look. Great stuff, I can't wait to see this piece illuminate my studio, all my clients will want to pay more when they see this!! Hmmm, I like.

  10. What a great idea. Musicians need long skinny displays above their knobs, but all LCDs come in a 16×9 rectangle, more or less. So just plop the knobs and buttons right on top of the glass, and get multiple long skinny displays.

  11. I went for a demo of this things last week. It is really amazing. The integration of the hardware and their own DAW allows you to just compose while the music plays. the dedicated physical interface makes learning much more fast than with your tipical pro tools/cubase/live/logic. This is heavily pattern oriented and does not really cope with audio tracks (you have to put them in a sampler). But anyway, you can install all your favorite DAWs and plugins as it is a full featured windows PC.
I will wait for a later version because for the moment, there is no undo function!! (but there is a BIG undo button, so it's coming pretty soon according to the developer) .
When I need to change my music computer, I will definitely consider one of these.
