  1. Ok I’m starting to think this blog should be called iPadtopia. I’m I the only one on iPad overload here?

  2. I agree. I wish there was a separate section for all the ipad, iphone whatever stuff…….i'm also getting tired of looking at this site which i used to like a lot, but all the irrelevant "spam" is pretty annoying.

I do agree that sometimes the number of iPad articles is a little bit overwhelming, but this app is actually really cool looking. Especially considering the price of C-Thru Music’s Axis controllers.

  6. While I haven't yet drunk the iPad Koolaid, I'm not quite in anim8tor's camp. I like seeing some of the more interesting things, such as this, that replace insanely over-priced hardware. I've wanted a hex keyboard for years, but could never justify the price, so this is getting closer to selling me on one.

I can see where Alex and anim8tor are coming from though. Little "Spam" blurbs about every little VST and App that comes out aren't as interesting to read as the more substantive articles Synthopia is known for.

As a suggestion, how about articles of your personal use with the VSTs/Apps, like mini-reviews or something, instead of just regurgitating the PR? It would greatly reduce the number of such articles I'm sure; and be vastly more engaging.

  8. I'm definitely interested in the possibilities that multitouch screens have for electronic music, such as the application discussed here. I'll be even more interested when we get some multitouch screen devices that aren't under-powered, under-featured, and over-hyped :)

  11. i love seeing this stuff but it's a bit much sometimes, i agree.

i would recommend synthtopia follows the gizmodo path and, unless it's super crazy and deserves a full article, does weekly "This week in ipad music apps" posts.

  14. The iPad is highly relevant to creative possibilities at a relatively low cost.

There indeed is an "iPods & Portable Media Players" category on the left, which could be renamed as the iPad gains prominence.

Some RSS aggregators also allow you to view headlines only (like Google Reader), so you can quickly skim posts. Some also let you filter out posts by keyword.

Nice colors in that screenshot. ;)

  15. Unfortunately – not sure if we can make everybody happy on this one.

The iPad & iPhone are new and important to the world of electronic music – but aren't going to be relevant to a lot of people.

I do appreciate the feedback, though, and I will try to tweak our coverage to cover what we thinks needs to be covered while not turning off people that could not care less about the platforms.

  17. Ya some of the people that are down on the iPad are probably from music hardware or even software developers that hedged in the wrong direction with the iPad and are desperately trying to add some drag to the future of digital music making.

I hate seeing any news about ludicrously overpriced Digidesign crap, any news that uses the ugliest acronym in the music business: "DAW", or anything else that is designed to imitate ancient console systems drooled for and on by burn-out audio engineers in the 70s; but I won't complain that any of it shows up here. It is awesome that Synthtopia is excruciatingly comprehensive. Just skip to the next story and stop barking at the moon. SHEESH

  18. A bit more productive suggestion now: I think roundups for the iPad are silly, particularly because many many people are interested in the devices for music. Another approach is to provide a filtered version of the site (even TUAW.com does this, and their audience are admitted Apple fanboys and fangirls) which you can click on to avoid seeing iPads and iPhones. But to be fair, you can add filters for DAW, and Digidesign =)

And let me be counter-unproductive one last time: I dislike wading through a litany complaints when trying to read comments about something that I am interested in. If you don't have anything interesting to say, then consider the power and courtesy of saying nothing and moving on with your life.

  24. About seeing a lot of iOS updates… It’s not their fault that you see a lot of updates coming from that front… While Korg and Roland re-release the same stuff over and over (that’s just an example! :D)
