In case you thought George Lucas hasn’tk done enough to ruin your childhood memories – he’s gone an reimagined Star Wars again by putting Daft Punk into A New Friggin’ Hope for Adidas, along with David Beckham, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel and DJ Neil Armstrong.

Daft Punk actually looks pretty bad ass – but what’s next? The Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull charging through the bar and goring Greedo?

  1. Ah, man–forgot about he Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull . . . I say put him in. And some alien drinking Pink Champale or intoning "What's the word–Thunderbird . . ." Gone this far, may as well.

  2. 1 word and 1 comment.

    First: LAME!
    Second: "Han shot first!".

Ye gods.. When I bought the Star Wars VHS box (yes, in my teens; the very first movie box with all 3 films) I never realized how much I'd value that stuff after 20 years or so. Later on I also got the "extended edition" (so basically; a 2nd box with 3 VHS cassettes) which had the "ring effect" and some other (minor) adjustments. Back then it sounded cool, would I've known back then what I know now I'd never even bothered.

Oh well.. for me this is simply another uber-lame piece of <censored>. And yes, I now also think less of Daft Punk too. Get real here.. We all know Lucas is a money whore. Squeezing every last drop out of his work (which in itself isn't a bad thing) and even stooping as long to simply altering the past and trying to destroy it as well because "he intended it to be different". How much more arrogant can you get?

Alas; it should be well known that Lucas will stoop low when he thinks its "good" and I bet a nice wallet of money qualifies as such.

And just when you thought things couldn't get even worse in the Star Wars franchise… Despicable.

And no; I also disrespect the "visual artistry". Its nothing more but cheap trickery; quick scene changes which give you a certain impression and a rather easily done change of character. If they can make whole artificial armies on screen they can easily change the characteristics of a single person.

I have nothing but contempt here, but that's solely as a star wars fan (sorta anyway) who finally found a decent platform and opportunity to spit out his frustrations without going up in the masses.

  3. As big of a fan of Star Wars that I am, I actually liked the commercial. And the amount of work it took to make it look as good as it does is pretty impressive. It's not nearly as bad as adding Jabba The Hutt into A New Hope!

  4. The term I used was "rotoscoping artistry"; a Rotoscope Artist is a career in the visual effects trade (which you clearly have no knowledge of) that most likely was employed in the fine digital compositing work here.

Yes, the concept is lame but the execution is well done even if you can't appreciate it. Star Wars is pretty shit anyways, I don't know why people bother to get worked up about it…

  5. I'm not opposed to it in any way, but you have to acknowledge that Star Wars has been a merchandising franchise pretty much since the beginning. The "sell out" was immediate. Nothing wrong with that (or this).

  6. Haha. I liked it. I mean, come on…compared to most of the crap ads out there. This is at least entertaining. And it's well done….

  7. why not? Have you second edition new hope where they inserted Jabba? They might as well have daft punk there because that looked horrible.

i'm for the original trilogy though i like revenge of the sith. i was expecting some daft punk music or snoop dog music. i guess not being a sports person i embarrassingly didn't know any of the other people. (people are going to hate me)

  8. I think this is a great promo! It’s really well done and has a lot of attention to detail.

Boogie Studio remixed all of the original Star Wars cantina sound effects and character dialogue with the new ones from the celebrities and other characters.

It’s a fun campaign and a great way to kick off FIFA 2010.

For more information or to see the full-length version of The Star Wars Cantina 2010 promo as well as to learn more about some of the other projects that Boogie has remixed the sound for, Please check out the blog below and feel free to comment.

    Cheers!
