Tom Oberheim SEM Pro – New Synth From An Analog Master

Tom Oberheim has introduced a limited run of another version of his SEM synthesizer: The SEM-Pro.

The SEM-Pro combines the MIDI capabilities of the MIDI SEM, but adds 21 jacks, which allow for additional patching.

We haven’t seen an offiicial announcement from Oberheim yet, but it looks like this version combines the features of the new Oberheim SEM synthesizer and the SEM w/MIDI.

Stromkult reports that the SEM Pro synthesizer will be available in December for 1090 Euro (incl VAT) at SchneidersLaden.

If you’ve got any more info on the Oberheim SEM Pro, leave a comment!

  1. Understand, I am just being funny here….but what is a ' real synth ' ?

Noun 1. synthesiser – an intellectual who synthesizes or uses synthetic methods
    synthesist, synthesizer
intellectual, intellect – a person who uses the mind creatively
    2. synthesiser – (music) an electronic instrument (usually played with a keyboard) that generates and modifies sounds electronically and can imitate a variety of other musical instruments
    synthesizer
electronic instrument, electronic musical instrument – a musical instrument that generates sounds electronically
keyboard instrument – a musical instrument that is played by means of a keyboard
music – an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner

I have a signature in a forum that states this:
" It doesn't matter what process or technique you use, it is the end results that matter "

  2. its definitely not just the end result that matters. life like oil painting done by hand with a brush > digital photo

if you're using a new Tom Oberheim SEM… you're doing it right!

  3. With all due respect, and I do respect your opinion,
the fact of the matter is, it all boils down to opinion,
    because it certainly isn't fact.

Art is art, no matter WHAT process you use…none is better, or
purer, than the other, ofr if one is better or purer, it is
solelt based on one individuals perception…and opinion.

  4. MAN…LOL..Happy fingers this morning…

Art is Art, no matter WHAT process you use…none is better, or
purer, than the other, for if one art form is better or purer,
it is solely based on one individuals perception…and opinion.

  5. No, I'd have to agree with Rust Creep on this one – if you are using a proper SEM, you are doing it right! Nothing else sounds like a SEM. They are truly magic. Old or new!

  6. Yes the result is important, specially for others, and yes the process is important, specially for you.
I’m not happy making music with a computer and a mouse, but I’m very happy making music with my collection of analog synths, making sounds from scratch. So if the result AND the process make you happy you’re in the right way.
