Can You Guess What Geist Is?

FXPansion has released this teaser video for “something special”, Geist.

There’s a lot of speculation that it could be a sequel to Guru, FXPansion’s MPC-style beatmaking workstation. Others think it may be a hardware controller for Guru, to compete with NI’s Maschine.

At this point, though, FXPansion isn’t spilling the beans.

“Geist” is a German word, meaning, roughly, “spirit-mind” – as in zeitgeist (the spirit of the times).

Can you guess what Geist is?

  1. Hardware strikes me as out of fxpansion's reach… I imagine developing hardware is incredibly expensive, and doubt they have the clout to go head-to-head with Maschine.

Given the logo looks like Guru's, but with two razor-edges, I would imagine it's a Guru update.

  2. …which, I might add, had me yawning. Not that I didn't like Guru back in the day, but… well… [shrug]

…Personally, I would much (!!!) rather see a really solid software alternative to MachineDrum, with remarkable drum synthesis, classy effects, and the ability to drop VSTs into its slots and trigger them from the drum-sequencer. (I assume this would take a company who's already developed and licensed a host application, so that limits the suspects.)

MachineDrum strikes me as one of the most worthwhile pieces of hardware out there. …coming from a software guy, there's nothing out there to match it other than using a bunch of synths to model individual parts (I use Massive, FM8, mainly)… which is kind of a pain.

(Errr… I should add that I own, use and love uTonic, too… but it's no MD.)

  3. Geist is something that I can wait to find out about, and don't need to waste my time playing guessing games over. It is almost also somethg I don't want or need.
