Korg iMS-20 Gets USB MIDI

Korg iMS-20 Synthesizer

iPad Music Software: An update to Korg iMS-20 (App Store link) is now available that adds USB MIDI support:

MS-20 Synth and Drum machine can be played by external MIDI devices (via Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit)

Hardware MIDI support is one of the most requested features we’ve heard for iMS-20. The update alls brings improved compatibility with iOS 4.2 and other minor updates.

KORG iMS-20 is a software electronic music studio that features a complete recreation of the Korg MS-20 analog synth, an analog sequencer, a drum machine, a mixer, and Korg’s Kaoss Pad technology.

Anybody else happy to see this update?

  1. Happy in ways, but I of course had to get a midi mobilizer and I get all sad because it's a much more elegant solution than the camera kit + Usb midi device. I guess I'll just have to survive and buy the right equipment.

  7. My guess would be because it has the physical midi plugs, usb and IN/OUT.
    Plus, it's dedicated hardware.

Either way…these korg apps just keep getting better.

  13. The Mobilizer doesn't have USB though. Personally, I think the E-MU Xmidi 1×1 tab and the camera connection kit are more elegant. You can use the Xtab if you need MIDI DIN connections or you can USB.

  25. I'd like midi mobiliser support as you can then use your sequencer to control the iMS 20… unless anyone knows how this is possible with USB midi?

  31. More elegant solution: There's only one device between the iPad and the controller. Less items to pack in a bag if I'm taking it somewhere.

  37. Dudes this app is sick. Totally worth the $15 but download before January 31 to get this at half off. ($15 is the half price). The kaoss pad alone is hours of fun. Ipaddj.tumbler.com

  38. Midimobilizer. What is it good for?

1.)Behringer UMA 25 – in Combination with Camera Connection Kit – a Keyboard, an Ipod Midi-Interface and a rocksolid Audio I/O Solution. Class Compliant on PSU, when on Batteries only the Midi I/O working. Its a Audio/Midi/Keyboard AND Interface for IPAD. 100€.
2.)XIOsynth even more options for a slightly higher Price. Full Class Compliant even in Battery Operation Mode!
Midi I/O, Keyboard, 11 free assignable Rotary Encoders , 11 Switches. Audio interface, and a wonderfull sounding Synth that can be directely connected to several IOS Midi Apps.
Its the best Audio/Midi/Keyboard AND Interface you could add to your IPOD.
Price: USED ca. 150 – 200€ New for about 250€

Midi Mobilizer ist just blocking the only physical port on the ipad.
    Price 65€ What a waste.

  39. This app is brilliant but I am wondering – has anyone achieved midi-out (with extra hardware or via midi/wifi)? I want to use the ims-20 sequencer to run other things.. is that possible?
