Nord announced its new flagship instrument line, the Stage 2 Series, at the 2011 NAMM Show.

The Nord Stage 2 features Nord’s latest sound generation technology in each of the piano, organ and synthesiser categories.

Here are the details:

Inside

The Stage 2 Series contains the latest piano sampling technology from the Nord Piano, including String Resonance, Dynamic Pedal Noise, and user-replaceable sample memory (twice the size of the Stage EX) compatible with the new Nord v5 Piano library.

The Stage 2’s Organ section features 3rd generation organ modelling derived from the C2 Organ, together with rotary speaker functionality. The Stage 2 has a new synthesiser section, with the genes of the Nord Wave.

Additional tone-generating options, an arpeggiator and compatibility with the Nord Sample Library. The Stage 2 has access to the existing library and, with the included Nord Sample Manager software, users can create their own sample-based programs.

Outside

The Nord Stage 2 is designed specifically for the professional performing musician, with a control panel and user interface designed to give immediate access to all key functions, as well as instant visibility of current settings. Single function controls, dedicated piano, organ and synthesiser sections, new Live Mode buttons, are all designed for ease-of-use.

In addition, the Stage 2 88- and 76-note versions feature a new keybed, designed to increase the instrument’s playability. Additional new features include MIDI over USB functionality, monitor input, midi sync. for the global master clock and master clock sync. for LFO, arpeggiator and delay.

The three Stage 2 models, Nord Stage 2 88 (88-note fully-weighted), Nord Stage 2 76 (76-note fully-weighted) and Nord Stage Compact (73-note semi-weighted) are expected to be available in February 2011.

  1. I don't know how to feel about this, because nord didn't warn me to be amazed, or surprised, or to expect the future.

I'm not well up on my nords other than the lead series. What's are the differences in the new keyboard? Just an updated OS, more voices?

  2. I wish Nord would simplify their lineup. Nothing is more off-putting to me than not knowing what they are either going to update or discontinue next. They have too many models of different products.

Just look at it all! Active: http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?tm=Products

.. holy crap! How about some focus and consolidation? This is just my opinion, of course, but it's already put me off a Wave purchase several times.

Also, why do they have to take a perfectly edgy design like that and stick on a mod controller that's made of plastic clearly recycled from a 70s dentists office? If I ever buy one of those I'm going to have to spray paint that thing immediately..

  8. Yeah, I understand your sentiment, but actually, their range isn't too bad when you consider that Nord aren't just about one type of keyboard. I think you'll find that both Yamaha and Roland have as many, if not more "obsolete" products as Nord does over the same time period that Nord has been around.

The fact that they mention their obsolete products on their site and also have links through to the last supported OS version is a good thing.

Also, don't forget that Nord's keyboard range isn't just about Synths as such. They've made at least 2 dedicated organs, 1 stage Piano, and the Electro.

  9. nord doesn't have any plastic mod wheel or pitch stick…what are you smoking. its a sexy piece of wood and metal. with a projected street price of $4,500…no thank you.

  10. I'm definately going to get this baby…
I have the Nord Stage EX (Compact) since before but this time I will get the 88…
perfect when you need good piano and some organ (don't forget waves and Leads…)

When I play mostly organ and only need some piano I use my Nord C1 along with my Stage Compact… (The Stage 2 has the same organ sound as that one)

As a final touch I can top it with my Nordlead 3 … 🙂
