Adding 36 Knobs & Faders To A Korg microKORG

This video, via mvpadrini, looks atย using an iPad and S1MIDItrigger to create a new ‘virtual panel’ for the Korg microKORG.

The virtual panel exposes 36 MIDI parameters to be changed in real time, allowing for much faster patch editing.

I’ve been working on a similar touchscreen editor for a Sequential Circuits Six Trak. Adding a multitouch controller to a vintage synth – especially one that has only one knob, like the Six Trak – introduces a new level of immediacy and interaction.

Note To iPad Developers: multi-touch control & patch management for vintage synths with social sharing – get on it!.

  1. I just took mine out of the closet I haven’t really ever used it for nothing more than ideas. Was always frustrated with tweaking the patches. Now this, this changes everything. Thank you for posting this you made my freaking day!

  2. Hi! You are welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚ I felt just the same when I used this virtual panel for the first time. The MicroKORG became a new synth for creating sounds. I also made two buttons for checking the sound without touching the keyboard, one works like a regular key (with different velocity values) and the other can hold the note for editing with booth hands.

The template is available for download and the link is on the video description.

  3. In fact there is no need for making plans. ๐Ÿ™‚ All you need is the MIDI Implementation list of your R3 (easy to find on the web) and then you can create your custom virtual panel just using the S1MIDITrigger editor (inside the app). All you have to do is select and insert some knobs/faders and set the MIDI CCs for them.

Just let me know if you need any help! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. How do you feel about that set up 5 m years later? I am looking at doing the same thing, but wanted some feedback from someone with experience.

  4. Where did you find the MIDI implementation chart for the microkorg? I've searched on the Korg website and around google but could only find things that told me about program changes and how to control portamento and pedal values, nothing to do with CC values I could assign to my novation 25sl mk2 or padkontrol.

Sorry if i'm missing anything really obvious here, still new to this. Thank you

  5. I have an android tablet, and i know music performance is not quite there but should be out with jelly bean etc. Would it be possible to do something similar with an android tablet + ableton (or other daw) and the Micro Korg XL?
