The Serendiptichord – An Alien Wearable Musical Instrument

Di Mainstone’s Serendiptichord is a sort of alien wearable musical instrument, designed to ‘entice the user to explore a soundscape through touch and movement.’

The Serendiptichord is the result of a cross-disciplinary investigation spanning fashion, technology, music and dance.

A collaboration between Di Mainstone and Tim Murray-Browne, the instrument was commissioned by BigDog Interactive and created at The Centre for Digital Music, Queen Mary University of London.

Here’s a video of the instrument in action, Heidi Buehler’s Serendiptichord dance.

  1. Seems like something the knife would use live.

Might just be the video, but i'm noticing a distinct disconnect and inconsistency from the movements and the sounds. Though that may just be the inherent unreliability of motion controls. I'm sure if it wasn't actually being triggered by the devices, they probably would have made the sounds more rhythmically impressive.

    Enough said.
