Secrets Of The Black Eyed Peas, With Musical Director Printz Board

Above, Black Eyed Peas Musical Director Printz Board gives a video tour of his live performance rig for BEP shows.

He discusses keyboard setup (including a Novation, Moog, Roland Juno-G, and Yamaha Motif), mixer, stereo monitors, bass amp, trumpet, and some of the things that you wouldn’t see on most gigs.

He’s got a talk-back mic to communicate with anyone in the crew in their in-ears. He also has a little TV screen that shows him any angle of the stage, and he can alert whomever necessary about potential problems, so that each cue happens at the right time and the show goes smoothly from song to song.

Below, a little more from Printz Board as he working process with Propellerhead Reason.

  1. I watched the second video and I was impressed. I don't like the style of music, I don't like the software. The one thing I do like is how he seemed so completely uninhibited.

  2. black eyed pees secrets:

    1. find preset rhythms on a kaos pad
    2. watch a youtube walkthrough on the use of side-chain compression in ableton
    4. feed soulless, mindless, talentless music to the masses.
    5. ????
    6. PROFIT!!

  3. Whether or not you like the Black Eyed Peas, the videos offer some interesting insight into the mechanics of what goes into pop production and what it takes to play gigs on that scale.

  5. A little bit interesting, but this video just shows a really talented musician barely tapping even the most basic functionality out of his tools. This is a perfect example of focusing on success and not innovation. Nothing learned other than there is at least one guy in BEP that I don't totally despise.

  6. I'm fine with lowest common denominator music being popular, but it's sad that we treat the people who make it as if they are doing something special.

  7. If you all think it is so easy how come you do not have any hits, also this guy is just doing a demo on the run, I am pretty sure when he is for real its innovative.

Its harder to write a hit for the masses than some self indulgent boring track from the great unsigned.
