  1. I didn't like this video because there is too much filler in there to my liking. Another reason why I didn't like this is because Ableton themselves have also conducted tutorials like this in the recent past (Huston Singletary's 'Ableton Live Clinic'). This looked like a re-run to me, without even paying attention to how the tempo and such are also fully synced between rewire clients. If you're going to explain basics then take it the whole way!

IMO this would have been more helpful if he'd also have mentioned the "Save as Default Preset" function of the external instrument (right click on the title bar of the instrument). THAT can be helpful if you mostly use Reason as a rewire slave because then all you need to do is to drag in the external instrument after which can get the show on the road instantly.

Bottom line; quite frankly I think Zenmonkey's discovery of getting midi OUT of Reason into Live using ReWire is much more interesting than this. As much as I love Live; its arpeggiator effect is no match for the RPG8 in Reason, not by a long shot.

How to combine those? Like so:

    My words explaining Zenmonkey's findings.

No offense intended here but I don't think its noteworthy to explain how to use ReWire after almost every podcaster or blogger has already covered this issue numerous of times. And I am well aware that there will always be people new to all this who also need to learn; but what's wrong with giving the people who have already been there explaining things some credit for their work instead of trying to do it all over again ?

  7. I don't see the reason đŸ˜‰ for an external instrument device: Reason and Live will establish an internal connection using ReWire automatically when they're started (master first). After that, you can see every Midi input and every Audio output of Reason in your Live track's routing menus (Midi To/Audio From), without having to add any device in Live. In order to see the routing menus in Live, you would need to enable the I/O region of Live's mixer, of course …

  8. I am a Reason user I don't use Ableton but am curious about it. I found the tutorial video very clear and easy to understand. Thanks for posting this.
