It’s been a while since we heard anything from the Beat Kangz, creators of Beat Thang Virtual – a sort of virtual MPC.

They’ve announced Beat Thang Virtual Preset Expander Pack Vol. 1-4, a collection of expansion packs.

Here’s what they have to say about the Expanders:

There are many samples in the BTV factory ROM that were not used in preset kits or instruments. So, unless you are willing to dive in and spend time building new kits, then you may not be making use of all of BTV’s potential. The Factory Preset Expander makes it easy for you.

Beat Kangz went back to the lab and spent hours creating new kits and instruments that make more of these sounds instantly accessible. Now you can quickly and easily unlock the potential of your Beat Thang Virtual! These new expansions tap further into the power packed sound designs of the Beat Kangz by giving you all new kits and Instruments to build with, and saving you hours of design time. Plus you get the added benefit of having the Beat Kangz as your sound designers.

The expansion packs are $9.99 each at their site.

  1. So let me get this straight…

The hardware isn't even available yet.. and honestly will it ever?… yet we can already buy sample packs that didn't get included? Ugh.

  2. I think the money brought in from the expansion packs is going to be used to help build the hardware unit. So by buying the expansion packs you'll actually be helping to bring the Beat Thang to market faster!
Sign me up for all four!

  3. To be honest, they should just sale sample packs that you could use in any sequencer. The Beat Thang Virtual is just Terrible !

  4. Let me see…how many years is it now they've been on…building BK? Dont know…but I seen the hype for some three years now….In the meantime NI Maschine has been updated something like four times…Coming out as a vst-host and everything.

Cant really see a competition between them but they follow the same original concept.

  5. Wow, if I'm reading this correctly, these are not even sample packs. It sounds like the samples are already in the ROM where you could access them yourself if you were actually interested in building your own kit, they're just not part of the preset kits/instruments. So you are basically just paying for someone to set up a preset for you, with samples you already bought, just to make them "easier" to use.

    From their website:
"Utilizes samples already in the existing BTV ROM. No new samples included, and you must already have BTV in order to install."

This company is a total joke.

  6. Some people give them a hard time, but they make good sounds and have guts to try something new. They are also enthusiastic about their endeavors which is refreshing. I hope that things improve for them because I think they are an honest group of musical fellows who maybe had some technical snafus but are sincere in their efforts. You can't compare apples to oranges. For the price, BTV is very innovative and it's just not realistic to compare it to Maschine or whatnot. Maschine is very very expensive. This BTV product is a nice budget kit for people who want to make music now, not next year when they've saved up enough cash.

The only thing that worries me is that their site is currently down (May 2011). I hope it gets back up because I'd like to buy the BTV but I assume I can't register/activate it if their server is down.
