New Musical Instruments Tour: Eigenharp, Continuum, SLABS and LinnStrument In San Francisco

Reader + Eigenharpist Geert Bevin sent word of  the New Musical Instruments Tour events that are scheduled for May 5th-9th in San Francisco:

We will be attending in the San Francisco area from May 5th through 9th, hosted by Roger Linn of Linn drum and MPC fame. We will be presenting the Eigenharps along with other revolutionary electronic instruments:

The Eigenharp, demonstrated by Geert Bevin, Senior Software Developer from UK-based Eigenlabs

The Continuum from Haken Audio, demonstrated by bay area pianist Ed Goldfarb.

SLABS, a new instrument designed by David Wessel, director of Cal Berkeley’s CNMAT computer music department.

The LinnStrument prototype by Roger Linn.

These instruments go beyond most existing electronic music instruments, sensing the movements of each finger in 3-dimensional space (for example, pressure for note expression, left/right for pitch, and forward/backward for timbre). But each instrument also presents other ideas and improvements over the traditional instruments and controllers.

  1. I wish the Continuum was a little bit more affortable. Maybe a value version at some point? It looks like a really expressive way of playing a synth.
