KDJ-ONE Mobile Audio Workstation (Sneak Preview)

This is a sneak preview of the Cyberstep KDJ-One – a mobile audio workstation running the MeeGo OS.

KDJ-ONE Features:

  • 5-inch multi-touch screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution
  • Physical keyboard and jog dials
  • 1 GHz Atom processor
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 4.0 GB of internal storage
  • Wireless LAN
  • USB

It can also run other Linux applications, including Firefox and Skype.

According to this report, the KDJ-ONE will be released during 2011, and priced at around 60,000-70,000 yen, which translates to about US $740-$860.

If that pricing is accurate, it’s not clear to us who the market would be for the Cyberstep KDJ-One. The hardware isn’t as elegant or as flexible as existing options, like the iPad or other portable workstations like the Teenage Engineering OP-1.

Check it out and let us know what you think of the Cyberstep KDJ-One.

  1. "Far less functionality than an iPad."

It has physical controls and runs a full Linux OS on Intel hardware, meaning you could theoretically run a whole slew of Linux applications such as Ardour, JACK, Rosegarden, Audacity, etc, as well as Windows compatibility through WINE (including almost every DAW and VST under the sun).

Please explain to me how this constitutes "far less functionality than an iPad".

    1. i think the reason for his post is, that the ipad does what he wrote, and your statement is full of shoulds and woulds 🙂

“theoretically” is nice, but not if youre comparing products where the product that could and would be as good as the other one costs double the money^^

any words about battery time ?

  2. What is with all the "toys" being produced lately…I dont feel I would relaese even the best track I could write on this. I need a pro DAW. How could this compare to Ableton, Cubase, or Reason?

  3. very tiny and hard to program, unless you have smurf fingers.

    over priced toy.

then again we live in a crazy world where people pay $799 for the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering, which sold out quick and taking orders for more.

  4. how come you people are knocking this product that hasent been released yet. I 'd rather buy this than an ipad just because it has real controls.
Im all for new products coming out anyway because it will inspire someone to make something better and innovate what we have not just release and applications and software.

  5. ahhhh! Just read about the crappy atom processor and the 512mb og ram. fail. A old sony-ux 280 would blow this thing.
