FL Studio Mobile For iPod, iPad & Even Android (Video Demo)

This is a in-depth demo of FL Studio Mobile – a new mobile studio for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.

According to Image Line, FL Studio Mobile is ‘coming soon’ to iOS. An Android version is also ‘on the road map’.

They note: “Yes, the hand is inside the iPad. With proper training and diet it is possible to fit the FL Studio Guru INSIDE an iPad.”

As popular as FL Studio is, FL Studio Mobile is sure to generate a lot of interest, too.

Check out the demo and let us know what you think of it!

  1. So it's basically Xewton Music Studio with a great step sequencer and a cool skin. Very limited on the synth front but pretty good for quick beat making. No word on audio copy yet?

But what is up with that quantize feature? When he quantizes the bass into 1/8s all the hihats also quantize into 1/8s. Did he mess up or is that a bug?

  2. What this doesn't cover is whether all those sounds are just samples or if there's any actual synthesis going on.

I'm guessing it is all samples in this example, since he used a filter as an effect. This is a pass if they don't include at least some simple FM. I'd rather use nanoloop than all samples.

  3. Literally, and unsuprisingly as it's developed by the same guy. What I was hoping to see was FL Mobile take its own direction on the iOS platform rather than piggy back on top of MusicStudio (don't get me wrong, it's a great app, but the workflow and interface are fundamentally different, and what I envisioned for FL was to be more adventurous).

Still I think will be a great app as I've been waiting for step sequencer on XMS for a LONG time, but it seems like there will only be support for Akai Synthstation and not Line 6 MIDI mobilizer which is what I have (and XMS supports it currently). Possibly due to Image Line not wanting to deal with the licensing? (can't imagine Akai's being that much different) and yeah, this is probably sample based just like XMS

  4. Without user sample import all I could see myself using this for is to make MIDI files, which I can do in other apps already. Like Stiksi said it's just Xewton with a different skin, so this to me is even less a similarity to the full app than Garage Band (and they brought it a little closer with sample import recently).

  5. As it's not mentioned anywhere and XMS doesn't already have it, I would have to guess it probably won't have it. I'm hoping demand (which would probably more explosive than what XMS got on it's own) will drive some more development into this.

  6. As I heard it, there will be a way to export the files from this app to your desktop running FL Studio. Even if it is sample based, this becomes a powerful sketch bad for getting things started when your away from your desktop and don't want to lug a laptop around (which is often for me). I love the idea of this as a place to start ideas, and then taking it into my PC for full treatment later.

  7. There are already a couple of producers who have used Nanostudio for the majority of their published albums. It's probably not for everyone but some people seem to find the workflow very quick and effective.

  8. Great for capturing ideas on the move and having some fun. I doubt its creators think it would replace current DAWs however.

  9. In Xewton Music Studio, the fx are global unless you click a little checkbox in the effects page that limits the effect to only fx tracks, then it only effects tracks with the fx symbol. Since this is identical to Xewton then i'm pretty sure that's the case their too. The fx routing in Xewton is very limited, I was hoping for an improvement in this app, doesn't appear to be the case though.

Adding a step sequencer to XMS is a nice improvement though, as drum programming is fairly tedious IMHO.

  10. i will be very curious to see how they manage the latency on android. i do know that the android v3, is much better in the audio api, but older versions have real issues with latency. this is why other ios stuff isnt available for android….

cool, i like fl studio very much.

  11. FL STUDIO MOBILE is developed by XEWTON who have already released this as MUSIC STUDIO and now it's RESKINNED and REPRICED. It has nothing to do with Imageline or FL Studio's instruments, layout or code. Check out and compare:

    and compare to:

check out the user manual and compare the exact effects just reskinned a new color, layout is almost identical. Be careful out there!

Not that musicians would take such a device serious in the first place.

  17. This app provides more than the producers/musicians had on many of my favorite albums over the last 60+ years. If you can't make great music on something like this, the problem is you buddy.

  18. I would say the interface change alone would be worth the money!

    >Not that musicians would take such a device serious in the first place.

Decent musicians wouldn't knock an opportunity to be creative anywhere they were. At minimum, you have to at least admit it's way better than a four-track used for writing and demos. Nobody is forcing you to use only an iPad app. Chill out! Think of how many "pro" musicians see these apps as awesome because they can now write and record on busses, in hotel rooms, etc.

  19. i guess if you're into toys as personal digital music notepads, sounds expensive.

it reaches the age groups of 5-12, which don't own iphones or ipads.

it has nothing to do with the original fl studio.

gearslutz is the epicenter of audio myths.

    1. iPad is a toy to some and an instrument to others…. really depends on what YOU do with it.

I completely agree about gearslutz tho.

  21. Leslie,

According to Image-Line, the app has been submitted to Apple for review. We are waiting for Apple now.

  22. If you don't like it ArturM, then don't buy it. Why the hostility? Give me a break! You sound like you are personally offended by this product. Most of us can't wait for it to be released. What is wrong with you then?

  23. Yeah it is Xewton Music Studio adapted to be compatible with FL Studio. You can create projects in FL Mobile and import them into FL Studio.
I think it'll be a nice app to start a track on the go and finish it in the studio later.

The instruments are sampled. No actual synthesis engine is built into it. You will be able to import your own samples in a later version. And since IL's DirectWave can auto-sample VST plugins, there's an easy way to import your own presets. (No ability to automate plugin internal parameters of course, since it's still sampled, but useful non the less)

It's not meant to replace any DAW. It's just a Sketch-pad to play with on the go. I'm looking forward for the Android port because I don't have any iOS devices.
