Cakewalk Z3TA+ 2 Sneak Preview

Cakewalk has announced plans for  Z3TA+ 2, an update to their waveshaping software synth:

With a redesigned user interface, deeper editing controls, new effects, and superior sound quality, Z3TA+ 2 builds on the legendary reputation of its predecessor.

Of course Z3TA+ 2 would not be complete without a new collection of sounds so we retained many of the same sound designers of the original Z3TA+ to create exciting new programs that are sure to spark your creativity. If you already own Z3TA+, then the upgrade to Z3TA+ 2 is a must-have and will be available for a special price. Z3TA+ 1.5 is included with SONAR X1 Studio and Producer and those customers will also be eligible for this special upgrade pricing.

Z3TA+ 2 is expected to be available later in July.

  1. Heh… losing Zeta was actually one of the decisions I had to spend the most time thinking about when I switched from Windows to the Mac.

…Sad that they don't mention, here, whether they will make it available on the Mac. : (Also sad that this was a teaser and didn't really show that much.)

  2. …That said, I should quickly add: I have found Vember Surge to be a commendable replacement and have since fallen in love with it.

…That… and a collection of other "wavetabley" VA synths (most notably Largo, Absynth and Massive), and I'd almost forgotten about Zeta.

THAT said, the hairs on my arms *still* raised when I heard about Zeta 2. 😀

  3. Sorry, one more thing. 😉

…I bought Cakewalk's Rapture, thinking it had a lot of the functionality of Zeta.

…I almost never use it. 🙁

  4. Some companies just aren't interested in Mac business. I got used to this a couple of years ago. It can be frustrating, but after all, that's an entire second section of people needed to code for a different platform, or perhaps a call to overwork those who can code in both. Some who are cross-platform can get fussy or even rude when you are not using Windows. (I wont name names, ahem.) The solution is, in my case, to appreciate Logic's bundled synths more and buy from people like MOTU who are fully behind Macs. Between the wide world of WAVs, things formatted for the EXS24 sampler and companies like Camel Audio who make things work smoothly, I'm covered. If you have good ideas, your platform won't be an issue.

  5. Cakewalk does indeed have interest in the Mac market, if you notice their plugins available for Mac OS. The issue is that z3ta+ code was very Windows dependent. If the whole thing was rewritten to create this new edition, maybe that dependence is gone. Who knows. Yet.

As for Sonar… Another code base very dependent on Windows. Would be nice if X1 has been a stepping stone to more portable code so that Cakewalk can port to Mac in the future, but there’s zero evidence to support that fantasy. In Computer Music magazine, a Cakewalk guy was quoted as saying something like “Who knows, maybe we should have just ported it then…” So the idea isn’t a stranger to Cakewalk… It’s just a matter of “a huge amount of work” vs “the potential market growth of Sonar being on the Mac platform.”

  6. When I got into production I wanted a synth for the Supersaw sounds I couldn't get with my Jupiter 8V. Looked at Vanguard and V station along with Z3ta.Definitely made the right choice with Z3ta. Perfect compliment for the Jupiter. Match made in Heaven, And Z3ta does Sooooo much more than Supersaw. Can't wait for V2.

  7. Z3ta+2 no longer features microtonal support through Scala files.
Very unfortunate this feature has been removed.
Hope they come to their senses and re-implement it..
