  1. I love detroit techno, I loved Fuse , but fuckinhell, he is one boring bastard now musically.
Juan Atkins Interference ep on Metroplex wipes the floor with this bland shit Hawtin does.
It's hilarious we see 'techno' in the hands of these bores and posh kids.
You cant beat a v good underground party. The elitism of Ibiza and super clubs are a joke.
It is like Chic's Freak out track ( a responce of not getting in Studio 54) Great music comes from the outside. Expensive gear Richie, shit music and you mention your sound engineer, does he /she have a name? Your loosing it mate but the posh ravers don't mind. Long live the outsiders in music!!!

  2. Kinda a shame. His early stuff was great.
I guess the theme has to turn into a themepark!
More selling hype instead of the music.

  3. +1 on the technology statement.

What gets me is when cats start to believe their own hype. Its really hard to watch that video and not think "damn Ritchie, are you trying to butter me up for Native Instruments endorsement? Cause I'm broke as fuck right now and I cant afford another limited edition Ritchie Hawtin Traktor release…".

Personally, I dont care much for his music. I think Ritchie is the poor man's Joey Beltram. Some of the early fuse stuff he was doing with Aquaviva was ok, and his more minimal Plastikman stuff was actually quite decent, but when you start comparing it to say any Chain Reaction releases, it just doesnt hold a candle. I will say this though, he knows how to program the shit out of a mix.

  4. Wow! no respect here then…
Well I respect what Richie does and has done. He is on a path and good things come of it regardless of his musical style. He is doing what he loves and he is an inspiration to some.

  5. Its not so much a matter of respect as it is opinion. I'm just one of many who find his stuff less inspiring than a lot of what other people where doing before, during, and after his big peak as a "pioneer".

Check out this Derrick May interview:

Regardless of how Derrick comes across or some of the other things he says, he does have a point in regards to dedication and the reasons behind making music. Sometimes people make music just because they bought the software/technology… and while I dont doubt Ritchie's love for technology keeps him inspired, that still doesn't change the fact that I find his music bland at best.

  11. Now, I'm a techie. My main thrive with this "synth thing" is my current synth study and the stuff which comes with it. Summarized: this is my main hobby (close to a devotion though I don't let it get the best of me by overdoing stuff).

I mentioned some doubts in a previous post ("why can't someone so deep into technical tweaks recognize the difference between a vst plugin and a Max for Live patch (esp. since it was custom made for him)?") but having seen this..

My opinion on the matter (from a 'techie' point of view I guess): "This is what happens if you utilize 'technology' without seeming to understand one bit what it actually does".

Maybe over the top but I honestly think he doesn't understand one bit of the stuff he's using. Meaning: I think he knows very well how it behaves; not how it works. His love for technology ends at knowing what it does do for him, not with the understanding /how/ it works for him.

If you love technology, esp. in combination with Ableton, you do NOT describe a Max for Live patch as a mere "plugin". (and yes, I am very well aware that this is probably my "geek side" getting the best of me).

  12. Yeah, I've heard guys say stupid stuff about music tech that pisses me off from a geek perspective like "how could he think that's how his daw works?!" but… some of these guys make way better music than me so maybe focusing on the techie stuff actually holds you back! I mean I'm sure a guitar luthier hears a lot of retarded stuff about guitars even from famous guys in major bands…but what does it matter? The musicians job is to make music not make instruments. I think as a musician you're better off applying your inner geek to music theory and analysis rather than technology.
