The Insane Deadmau5 London Nokia Light Show

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX2Gd-kqV5s

Nokia UK & Deadmau5 presented this absolutely insane presentation yesterday, Nokia Lumia Live, at Millbank Tower, London.

Millbank Tower served as the canvas for this spectacular light show. Each of the 120 metre high building’s 800 windows were covered with vinyl, as 16 powerful projectors, stationed 300 metres away on the other side of the river, beamed 3D images onto the structure.

We’d like to see this sort of technology applied to something greater than selling mobile phones. But, at least for now, it’s unlikely that you’re going to see something on this scale without a big corporate sponsor.

Check out the video and let us know what you think. And, if any readers were at the event, let us know what it was like to see it live!

Update: The light show was produced by Drive Productions.

  1. This reminds me quite a bit of Amon Tobin’s ISAM, which was amazing (albeit not as big as a building). Also reminiscent of Jean Michele Jarre’s Houston, TX light show performance. Great stuff!

  2. Deadmau5 should hire 10 different guys to go around the world and wear mouse heads and play his CD and bring with them a giant light show. He would then rule the world with his mass fortune.

      1. no. i don’t like the music at all but i can’t call sell out when i’m pretty sure i’d take the commission given the chance.
then you better believe i’d be high.
it’s industry bullshit paying industry bullshit to play some bullshit.
        business as usual.

  3. The fucking skyscraper melts! Where’s your child like sense of wonder that can actually admit it looks cool when a skyscraper melts? Have ya got no decency? Of course he didn’t foot the bill, so what get the corporates to pay up, record sales sure aren’t going to guarantee any of us a retirement or the money for night out burning bonfires of quid. It ain’t the White Album, but that boy can fill the sonic spectrum like a mother. and U2’s spaceship was amazing too, a big spectacle can be fun you fucking bedroom hermits you.

  4. Sick light show! To bad deadmau5 sucks, they should have got Bassnectar. I wish Daft Punk would show up in some spaceship and fry that stupid mouse.

It’s not architectural mapping, lightshow stuff, but this art piece is as large if not larger in scale (and isn’t shilling for some corp.) Don’t get me wrong. I think it is cool that corporations are willing to spring for this sort of thing. I just wish the content was better.

  6. I live so close to this and didn’t realise it was happening. Phone advertisement or not, the visuals and execution were perfect. I’m not too hot on deadmau5 but as a fan of dance music and student of business I can understand how he’s got where he has: with tight personal branding and a knack for seeing commercial opportunities. Call it selling out, but if you’ve seen how much gear that guy has been able to buy with his earnings don’t tell me any of you gearslutz wouldn’t do exactly the same in a heartbeat if you had the ability.

  7. Is it possible to be any more corporate than this? The only thing exceptional about any of it is that it was happening on the side of a giant building. The visuals look like cheesy 80s transition effects, and the music is… well… it’s all I’ve come to expect from Deadmou5.
