Orphion iPad Musical Instrument Now Available

Reader and developer Bastus Trump sends word that he’s released his iPad musical instrument, Orphion.

Here’s what he has to say about Orphion:

I’d like to announce my currently released iPad musical instrument Orphion. Its interface was developed especially for touch screen and allows very expressive an also virtuosic playing. You can choose between different layouts of tonally tuned pads, which sound differently depending on the finger position when played and can by modulated by further movements.

The sound and the way of interaction is a mixture of string and percussion instruments and reaches from soft to plucked to a hard slap.

We posted preview videos of Orphion, previously.

If you’ve tried Orphion, leave a comment and let us know what you think of it!

  1. I’m not sure i get it, is that really the only sound? If that’s the case i guess it’s a great innovative controller exclusively paired to a embarrassingly lame synth. Give it midi out, post haste!

  2. Saw this as a demo a year ago. At the time it was a MAX/MSP patch running on the guy’s Macbook, and he was looking for coders to help him get it onto the iPad. Looks good.

    1. Bastus –

How are you translating the various articulations that you can play within Orphion into MIDI? Is it just velocity in the MIDI out?
