Sunday Synth Jam: Here’s a quick break from the onslaught of synth news – experimental synthesist Chris Stack’s Atonal Oscillations with the Moog Voyager and MF-102 Ring Modulator.
Unfortunately, YouTube compression ate much of the bass frequencies at the 2:20 mark. The MF-102 oscillator goes way below the audio range so you can hit some really low notes.
Two years ago I really didn’t understand why everyone wasn’t using synth vsts and apps and welcoming the future, to me they sounded great and …oooh gobs of presets to soothe my ADD! But now I’m completely addicted to using control voltage with analog instruments (thanks Synthtopia~), and this video gave me goosebumps. I only have a few Moogerfoogers and a Monotribe to work with, but man there is just nothing in the world like the pop of crisp, clean electricity pulsating through your devices, while your route and reroute and modulate and fill the entire room with deep and glorious sound. Sure YouTube is in the way, but you can still feel the purity of CV here. Fucking love it! And I also love mixing in my iPad apps, who needs to take sides? But die-hard software people listen up: real electricity will do wonders for your music .. 🙂
We don’t set up to mess with people’s perception of reality – but sometimes that just happens.
It sounds like you were pretty open minded to begin with, though.
There’s just a lot of great stuff coming out – hardware, computer software and mobile software.
Goosebumps eh? Guess I’m heading in the right direction. I love bringing in the iPad apps too. Last night I was experimenting with running Orphion through a stereo pair of Moog MF-102 Ring Modulators. May be part of a future video. Thanks Synthtopia for the tip on Orphion.
