New iPad App, Petites Ondes, Recreates The Ondes Martenot

Reader Masao Suzaki wrote us to lets us now about a new iPad app, Petites Ondes, that recreates the Ondes Martenot.

The Ondes Martenot is an early electronic music instrument, created in 1928 by Maurice Martenot, that allows for continuous gliding between pitches. The last official Ondes Martenot instruments were produced in 1988.

The Ondes Martenot was used featured extensively by composers of the early 20th century, and in soundtracks in the mid-20th century.

More demos of Petite Martenot are available at the Skip Note Studio site.

  1. I got this a few days ago…. works great but the sound is very specialized. If you want to use these types of sounds you can’t go wrong though.

  2. That’s pretty cool. I vote against a version that plays in tune for you. There’s already plenty of stuff out there for people that don’t want to learn anything or tolerate the moderate challenge of intonation.
