Saturday Synth Porn: Ken MacBeth of MacBeth Studio Systems posted this awesomely moody studio shot on his Facebook page.
As much as I hate the idea of smoke getting around synth gear, MacBeth’s combination of smoking, drinking and analog synthing looks pretty damn appealing.
I reckon that’s the finest photo of a synthesizer player ever taken. Sorta revolutionary in its own way too: no longer ‘synthesist as lab scientist’ or ‘synthesist as pop star’ but ‘synthesist as private detective’…
Yeah – sort of film noir looking!
if the synth fails — which it won’t — ken will just make another one. i met jean-jacques perrey and he said people don’t smoke enough.
now I know why so many ads on ebay say “always kept in smoke free studio”
Yep, I discovered it recently also, when I bought a used multitrack cassette deck from a studio, where the owner had apparently been smoking: the thing was covered in a yellow, sticky dust layer! I’m surprised that it even worked!
I like to pretend the smoke is coming from the synth and his fingers.
