Real vs Virtual – Can You Tell The Difference?

Here’s another teaser video, via G-Storm Electro, of the upcoming VSP330 r2 – a virtual recreation of the classic Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus.

The Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus is a great string synth/vocoder/ensemble keyboard, that was introduced in the late 70’s. It was notably used by Vangelis in his early 80’s work.

Can you tell the difference between real and virtual? Try giving the demo a listen with your eyes closed. Can you tell the difference between the real Roland VP-330 and the virtual version?

Let us know what you think!

Here’s what G-Storm has to say about the new plugin:

I am developing a new plugin version for the VP-330.

The sounds you hear are testing the PC plugin (off screen) against a real MKI VP-330. Both have all voices/strings/ensemble turned on for full effect. This is a work in progress, I’m thinking the UpperFemale4′ still needs some work and could be closer. Everything else seems to be great.

When the time comes and all goes well in beta testing, this VST will be available at a very modest donation everyone can afford. The VP-330 being some kind of rare and mythological creature, my intention is to make the experience of the vintage choirs/strings available to more people and their use in music.

  1. Sounds pretty great to me! Besides, the source material won’t matter after all the tweakers run this through a bit crusher. 😉

  2. If only someone would make a faithful recreation of the vocoder section. I have an actual VP and thus far haven’t found any plugin vocoders that matches the richness and rawness. Any recommendations?
