New Squarepusher – Dark Steering

This is the official music video for Squarepusher‘s Dark Steering, taken from forthcoming album Ufabulum, which is due out May 14th.

Here’s what Squarepusher has to say about Dark Steering:

“For a while I had apocalyptic nightmares about trails of nuclear missiles in the night sky. So I aimed to recreate that strange combination of exhilaration, terror and sadness both visually and emotionally through this piece. It lead to the idea of a spacecraft leaving earth at vast speed to escape, but oddly the music also made me think of it flying through a library. So I generated the visual aspect such that, as the piece progresses, it seems as if the viewer is ever accelerating through massive corridors of books.”

  1. That song took a hell of alot of work, so much programming….. well done square pusher, i was afraid for about 2 minutes kids were going to start using the phrase “IDM Step” … heh, it still sounded awesome but i really liked when the more D&B style drum sequences came in and especially that squeel.

very cool to see an experienced EDM artists new work.

  2. If someone put the fragmented choppy grooves of 70s COCAINE Miles Davis into a quantum audio analyzer/re-generator computer from the year 2055, this would be it.

  3. yep
    that’s good.

I feel like helmets are official now.

When I saw him in 2002, he was just a dude with some samplers…

    woah.

  4. i went to the preview concert for this album at webster hall nyc. this is one of the songs that would probably appeal to a wider audience. i find it odd that there are younger generations of producers who idolize him and also pale in comparison in terms of virtuoso and technical ability – yet the teenage fans of those younger producers probably have no idea who squarepusher is. anyway he is a genius and will go down in history as a pioneer for jazz and electronic music.

    1. p.s. i think this album will be a favorite with fans…there are lots of sounds, programming, and basslines reminiscent of his earlier work (selection 16, do you know squarepusher) but with more punchiness and clarity

  5. Is everyone infected with dub step? I expect more from an innovator than Daft Punk/Deadmua5 inspired visuals and dub step beats combined with his earlier work. Time to hang it up. You wouldn’t see Richard D. James pulling this crap.
