Download The 8-bit Tribute To The Music Of John Carpenter

The soundtrack music of John Carpenter has received the 8-bit treatment in a new tribute album.

“I remember you featured us when we released our Dark Side of the Moon 8-bit tribute,” writes reader Joe. “Pterodactyl Squad is back with an 8-bit tribute to John Carpenter.”

It’s All In The Reflexes is a John Carpenter tribute album, featuring the music of 8-bit artists, including R-Sunset, Comptroller, seal of quality, Videogame Orchestra, EvilWezil, Videovalvontaa, Lorenzo Music, OxygenStar, SLAW, arcadecoma. and Shrimps.

Here’s what they have to say about the album:

Budgetary limitations faced by John Carpenter at the dawn of his career forced him to take to his synthesizer collection and create his own visionary lo-fi scores for his movies. Pioneering video game music composers were similarly restricted by primitive sound chips and as a result, tiny magical sounds were forced into existence.

How minimal can minimal get? At Pterodactyl Squad HQ we decided to find out by marrying the greatest hits of John Carpenter with the style and hardware of vintage video game systems. It’s all about doing much with not much. It’s all in the creativity. It’s all in the imagination. It’s all in the reflexes.

It’s a free download via the Pterodactly Squad site.

  1. Total Carpenter fan, so I had to download this! And yes, better than expected. Some of those are actually quite good imho! No wonder, there’s a couple of my favourite chiptune bands in it, like Videovalvontaa and Video Game Orchestra.
